This project began in the summer/fall of 2020, when I contributed a cover of “Laurence, the First Vicar” for Dance Macabre 7. That track served as a proof-of-concept for a larger scale project that I always wanted to do: a full album of orchestral, metal-centric Bloodborne covers that re-tells the lore of the game chronologically.

Bloodborne is one of my favorite games and soundtracks, so this was going to be a steep hill to climb in terms of living up to the original source material. It also encompasses a wide variety of my musical influences. Some songs swerve between some thrashy Lamb of God type riffs to mellow Opeth-like interludes.

Outstanding instrumental metal album that happens to pay tribute to FFVII. While some of the songs would pretty clearly lend themselves to great metal covers (Bombing Mission, The Chase, Let The Battles Begin), I was most impressed by how much some of the deeper cuts (eg. Mako Reactor) came to life as ripping headbangers. There’s not a weak track on here and the chronological arrangement further complements my enjoyment of the album. Highly recommended. Lloyd James

This whole album is solid VGM gold from start to finish, but the Mario Land track is especially fun and the Chrono Trigger track gives me chills every time. Worth the price for just those alone. indietecher
